Buffalo Aesthetics: Top 5 reasons HydraFacial is Better than Microdermabrasion

The HydraFacial and microdermabrasion devices are useful tools in improving skin texture, quality, and turgor. At Buffalo Aesthetics, we offer both services, however, based on patient feedback, literature research, and our own experiences, we have concluded that a HydraFacial device has supplanted microderm systems. Below are Buffalo Aesthetic top 5 reasons the HydraFacial device is better than Microdermabrasion systems.

  1. No down time: HydraFacial uses water to debride the skin while microdermabrasion uses crystals or diamonds. After a HydraFacial treatment, you experience no downtime with treatments in as little as 30 minutes.
  2. Clean, extract, and hydrate: the HydraFacial technology is a 3 in 1 process whereas simple microdermabrasion only offers debridement.
  3. Designed for all skin types: Fitzpatrick skin types 1-6 can receive a HydraFacial treatment, whereas skin type concerns are prevalent with microdermabrasion.
  4. Immediate results: Results are noticed right after treatment, and can last 7+ days. With microdermabrasion immediately after the procedure you will experience redness, and irritation that can last several days before results are noted.
  5. LED Light Therapy: the HydraFacial device utilizes LED light therapy that encourages cell growth and building skin with stronger integrity. Most microdermabrasion machines offer no such service.

Our boutique has both devices available for our clients in East Amherst, Williamsville, Buffalo, Orchard Park, Lewiston, and Lockport markets. If you’d like more information on either of our devices, please call or come in for a consult.

Platelets in Plasma at Buffalo Aesthetics: What is Platelets in plasma?

Plasma that contains a higher concentration of platelets (generally 6-8 x baseline).

Why is Platelets important?

Platelets stimulates growth factors, cells, and cytokines that are integral to tissue growth and repair.

Are all Plasma with platelets the same?

No, all are not the same. The goal is to obtain a high concentration of undamaged Platelets. Pure platelets are dependent on your blood draw technique, centrifuge, and number of spins that provides the highest yield of concentrated platelets. Having higher concentrations of platelets reduces the number of injection sessions.

Applied to the skin the same as injected into the skin?

No. Although applying a serum to the skin will moisturize your skin, one of the functions of the outer layer (epidermis) is to protect your skin. For it to work, it requires getting through the epidermal layer (protective layer) and down into where it can interact with growth factors without platelet breakdown.

Why is the swelling worse post treatment?

The body’s response to Platelets is to initiate the wound healing cascade. Part of the wound healing cascade involves growth factors, enzymes, and interleukins that are responsible for swelling and an inflammatory reaction necessary for the development of new and healthy tissue. It is the same process of healing the body goes through with cuts and injuries on the body heal over.

Why is it not serum not red?

When obtained in an ideal fashion it should appear clear. When 1 drop of red blood cell enters the solution, the color is stained to a pinkish hue.

Is the procedure painful?

Patients encounter minimal to moderate discomfort. All attempts at reducing pain are taken with ice application, topical numbing creams, and local nerve blocks. Dependent on the location of PRP administration, pain symptoms will vary.

Can I have a reaction?

No. The solution is a by-product of your own blood re-administered into your body, it is unlikely for you to develop a reaction from use.

Botox at Buffalo Aesthetics: What’s the Difference between Botox and Dysport?

Buffalo Aesthetics offers a wide array of products. When discussing neurotoxins, our main products are Dysport and Botox. Both medications offer similar end results, but subtle differences also separate the two products on a microscopic level.

Before we get into the differences between the products, lets figure out what is the same. In the botulinum family, both Botox and Dysport products are botulinum type A toxins. This means that they have similar structures. The main function of these neurotoxins is to block the release of chemicals responsible for muscle movement. That said, because both medications are synonymous, they show similar efficacy and side effects.

Differences between Botox and disport include:

  • You need more Dysport to have the same effect as Botox. (Dysport: Botox ratio 2.5:1)
  • Dysport has a smaller molecule size, so that Dysport results are seen quicker than Botox by 2 -3 days
  • Dysport diffuses over an area more than Botox

Due to Botox being first to market, its brand recognition is much more pronounced then Dysport.  Ultimately, the question isn’t which product is better, rather, it is who is injecting your Botox and Dysport? The product doesn’t creates poor results, but the provider! Go to an experienced cosmetic provider, and choose wisely!
