Benefits of Skin Resurfacing

By August 15, 2022No Comments

What is Skin Resurfacing?
Skin resurfacing is a safe, effective, and convenient treatment to exfoliate layers of your skin. Exfoliation is the process of manually turning over the most superficial layers of your skin. You will notice youthful, tighter, hydrated skin that has a tendency to help develop collagen.

Why is it Important?

Skin resurfacing allows your skin to look more youthful, hydrated, less pigmented, and with scars/pores that look less noticeable. The controlled irritation to your skin will stimulate collagen production, and help your skin look more volumized.

Layers of the Skin

Skin is the body’s largest organ and it works to protect the body from different kinds of damage. The skin has three primary layers and each serves its own purpose.

What types of Resurfacing are available at Buffalo Aesthetics?
From least aggressive to most as listed.

Environ Peels
Depth of penetration: Superficial to deep depending on how many treatments
Purpose: are great for hydrating and refining the skin. They promote cell exfoliation revealing fresh and youthful skin.
Downtime: some dryness and peeling

Dermaplaning
Depth of penetration: Superficial, exfoliates the upper layer of skin.
Purpose: Dermaplaning is another gentle skin resurfacing treatment utilizing a surgical blade to remove the top layer of skin cells. The exfoliation allows for cell renewal and better skincare penetration.
Downtime: none

Hydrafacial
Depth of penetration: Deeper the Peels
Purpose: Hydrafacial uses hydro microdermabrasion, which is a gentle form of exfoliation. It utilizes jets of water to lightly resurface skin.
Downtime: some post-treatment inflammation

Microneedling
Depth of penetration: Superficial
Purpose: Rejuvenates your skin by boosting collagen production. This process works by creating controlled trauma to the skin. It helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and elevates the overall texture of your skin.
Downtime: some erythema for 24-48 hours and dry flaky skin for about a week

Nanofractional laser
Depth of penetration: dependent on needle depth.
Purpose: this is an advanced nonsurgical skin resurfacing treatment. By stimulating the production of collagen and elastin this treatment helps to diminish textural irregularities and other signs of skin damage.
Downtime: some erythema for 24-48 hours and dry flaky skin for about a week
